Bob MattinglyFirst, from my past experience with children and my conversations with you, I know that what parents most value is their child.  All of us here at CMS are honored that you have chosen to entrust your child and their future to us.  Our staff has been working tirelessly for weeks to create an environment and education worthy of your child.

Second, you are entrusting your children to an impressive staff.  Returning families can look around and see many familiar faces that have made CMS an impressive school. You will also see several new faces of very talented faculty and staff who will help to shape CMS as an impressive school for the future.  I have included a short summary of the entire staff and their educational backgrounds. Our alumni speaker at graduation last June said, "at CMS you learn how to learn."  This year's faculty will continue this strong tradition.

Finally, we have upgraded our CMS communications.  I am reaching you via the new electronic version of our newsletter.  When you see Peri Lane, parent of Solon and Sophia Abel, please thank her for designing such a wonderful communication forum for us.  This will be the communication tool not only for our newsletter but also for any extra-ordinary communications that may arise.   If you would like the newsletter to be sent to an additional email address such as another family members, feel free to click on "Join Our Mailing List" to add them.  Also, every faculty member now has a CMS email in the format "last name"@Chesapeake-Montessori.com.

This Fall we look forward to several major events, including our accreditation visit, which happens every ten years.  Stay tuned for more information about the events in the next several newsletters.  I join the entire CMS faculty and staff in looking forward to a wonderful year with all of you.

Getting a Good Start

by Gail Guthery

September is here and that means the beginning of school.  It is an exciting time for both children and their parents!   Some children will be joining a community outside the immediate family for the very first time.   Other children may be making a change in their community by moving into the Primary or Elementary programs. Changes can produce some anxiety along with the excitement.  It is vital that the experience be a calm, supportive, and positive one.
