It was wonderful getting to know so many of you at the Fall Family Picnic.  It might not have felt like Fall; certainly felt like a --family-- picnic.  CMS is not simply a place where your child works toward their potential --but is a community of friends.  Three cheers for Eileen Simpson and her crew who worked so hard to make the event so enjoyable for all of us.

Returning families may remember last year that the Board's Development Committee asked a parent in each classroom to be a parent ambassador.  I am going to be contacting someone from each classroom to work directly with me this year.  These people will shepherd events unique to each classroom to further our CMS community.  The next newsletter will list these parents.

I am glad that people voiced their concerns about the elimination of babysitting at CMS evening events; always feel free to email me with any concerns you may have.  Some parents have described babysitting in glowing terms --a big help to them and the highlight of their child's year.  Some staff have described it as a horror --too many kids, not enough staff wanting to do it, and kids standing around crying.  I want to talk with people and try to reinstitute it in a way that works well for all.  Please keep in mind that there will not be child care at this Thursday's parent evening.

I want you to be aware of a change of an important change in the CMS Medication Policy.  Please click here to read the exact policy.  Be aware that this change is not my decision, but a change in Maryland Law.  Now, in the State of Maryland in order for a school to give a student any kind of medication, we would need to hire a Registered Nurse.

On a happier note, CMS will be re-energizing our Birthday Club.  This club is a wonderful way for children to celebrate with learning, instead of sugar.    If you decide to participate, on your child's birthday they will pick out a book to donate to the CMS library.  The book will be inscribed as a book donated by your child to commemorate their birth.  Click here for details.Lastly, on Tuesday, September 18th, the AIMS visiting committee will be on campus for a "pre-visit."  We will be leaving parking spaces on campus open for them.  Please do not try to park on campus that day.

Thanks so much for all the families that helped kick off the new school year by enjoying a perfect afternoon at the Fall Family Picnic and a great morning for the Welcome Coffee!  A huge thanks to Eileen Simpson and TIne Dickey for planning and organizing a fabulous picnic and thanks to Suzanne Roberts for the fun filled activities for the kids to engage in!  There were so many families that helped to set up and to clean up; everyone's participation was appreciated to make the event a huge success!  Thanks go out to Eileen Simpson and Lisa Robertazzi for organizing the Welcome Coffee for new and returning parents.  A good time was had by all!

Be on the lookout for the PTO's Fall fundraiser!  Featuring a wide assortment of gift wraps, gourmet foods, and gifts, Innisbrook catalogues will go home with our kids September 24 and we will run our sale through October 12th.  The PTO gets 50% of all sales!!  Don't forget that online ordering allows purchases by out-of-town friends and family to be credited to our school!  Check out www.innisbrook.com and use our school code- 102069.

The Board of Trustees decided to help improve the transition of our faculty, administration and Head of School. Several parents graciously agreed to help and one result was a wonderful gathering on the 7th when board members, teachers, administration and Transition Committee members were invited to informally enjoy some great food and mingle.  It was a wonderful evening and a great opportunity to get to know each other.  Thank you Transition Committee!   This is an important step in helping ensure we have good and open communications and also helping to understand where the Board role starts...and ends.  Again - thanks to Linda Miller, Carmel Conaty, Gail Guthery, Sue Malone, Susie Corrado, Cathy Cahill and Tine Dickey.

So many new children are starting in the Toddler or Primary communities and I am sure parents are hearing about polishing, spooning, table washing, dish and cloth washing, and a variety of what we call Practical Life activities. Your child has also received many grace and courtesy lessons so that he learns how the people in the classroom behave and cooperate.  You may even wonder about the purpose of these activities!
