Head's Corner

Winter has arrived! Some of you may have wondered last Thursday, "Why did CMS send an email about early dismissal after school ended?" Well, we sent the email in the morning, but server issues delayed it until late afternoon. I apologize for any problems this may have caused. Snow in the middle of the day is tricky. There is a strong argument to close school early--there is also a strong argument to keep school open. Please feel free to send me any comment you may have on our dismissal last Thursday.

The snow required us to cancel the parent education evening that was scheduled. We have rescheduled the parent education evening for February 7 th. It has been suggested that we try a different time for parent education; therefore, education for Toddler parents will be 3:15 p.m., and Elementary parents will be 3:45 p.m. If you need child care during parent education, please call and reserve a space in the normal extended day program. Also, feel free to forward me your comments about this change.

There are a couple of other things to put on your calendar. Suzanne Roberts will be doing Jump Rope for Heart again this year; click here for details. Around the corner is Grandparent's Day. A letter will be sent out this week inviting grandparents to call and reserve a spot for one of our three special days. On February 15, school will be closed so that Primary and Toddler parents who feel a need to have a conference with their child's teacher can schedule one. If you would like to reserve an appointment, please contact Cathy Cahill (cathy@Chesapeake-Montessori.com .

CMS re-registration is also on the horizon. You can expect your paperwork the end of February. It will need to be returned to CMS approximately three weeks after receipt; more about this later.

Finally, there are fewer out-of-the-ordinary events at this time of year. Therefore, the newsletter will be sent once a month for the rest of the school year.

Our school store is fully up and running.  We are now offering children's long sleeve T-shirts in Red.  In addition, we are also offering the adult hooded sweatshirts in red as well as the original gold.  New order forms are available on the website.  In compliance with MD state tax, we are now required to charge a 6% sales tax on all orders.

Coming soon to the store will be reusable grocery totes.  They will be a great way to be environmentally conscious while keeping our school name in the public eye.   Remember, our school store will only be as good as we choose to make it.  Please send any comments and suggestions to Lori Smith ( LoriSmith@alum.mit.edu ).
